Finnigan’s Wake: Not Your Average Irish Pub

Finnigan's Wake Irish pub in downtown Winston-Salem

There was something special about St Patrick’s Day this year, the first since Finnigan’s Wake reopened last year. You might know if you’ve been around these parts since the pre-pandemic days.

Finnigan’s Wake is Winston’s only Irish pub, but most locals revere the business as an iconic downtown staple. Those unfamiliar with the area’s recent history might think this is extraordinarily high praise for a dive joint, but it’s not unwarranted. Finnigan’s Wake opened in 2006 with goals of helping revitalize Trade Street, creating a meeting place for the community, and adding some Irish flavor to Winston-Salem. Its location on Trade Street differed from today’s bustling area, years away from transforming into a popular spot for breweries and eateries. It was among the first businesses to bet on downtown’s renewal.

Finnigan’s Wake is located at 620 Trade St NW.

Still today, Finnigan’s makes all menu items from scratch with fresh ingredients. They offer various drafts, cocktails, and many single malt scotches. When it’s nice outside, enjoy food and beverages (with the pup) on the back patio.

In the true spirit of an authentic Irish pub, the staff at Finnigan’s strives to make everyone who walks in feel like part of the pub’s community and family. If you find yourself on Trade Street, stop by for a welcoming experience with good food or at least a Guinness.

Hi, it’s Jeff Valentino. In 2019 my 2 sons and I packed up and moved to Winston Salem from the suburbs of Chicago. We didn’t know one person here. I wished there was a resource for people like me who are considering a similar move, so I decided to make one!
