Local Ready-Made Meals in Winston-Salem, NC

Winston-Salem is full of delicious southern cuisine, and we’re sharing four of our favorite businesses for deliciously prepared food to pick up and take home.

One of the best aspects of living in Winston-Salem is the food scene. That’s great, but many want to eat only some meals at a restaurant. Sometimes you want to cook a homecooked meal at home. Other times, you want to enjoy a homecooked meal at home cooked by somebody else, and that’s exactly who this article is for. Here, we cover four of our favorite Winston-Salem businesses with deliciously prepared food to pick up and take. Save this list for when you don’t feel like cooking for the family or when someone you know is going through a significant life change, like caring for a new baby or a sick loved one—We all can use a hot homecooked meal prepared by somebody else from time to time!

Salem Kitchen

Salem Kitchen is a local staple that prepares gourmet to-go meals. The store on Miller Street makes it so easy because you can stop by whenever they’re open, take a look at their selection, pay, and go. Salem Kitchen has a variety of fresh and frozen, chef-prepared entrees, sides, soups, salads, breads, and desserts packaged to go.

Our go-tos at Salem Kitchen:

  1. Chicken Tetrazzini
  2. Company Casserole

The Carving Board

The Carving Board is a Winston-Salem favorite for sandwiches and salads, but it’s also an excellent place for ready-made food for pickup. You can contact them to plan a pickup order or stop by while they’re open to see what they have prepared and ready in the display case. You can expect prepared meat and seafood entrees like rosemary roasted pork loin, coconut shrimp, salmon, and chicken breasts. Most salads are always available, including pasta, potato, spinach, and fruit. Other side selections change daily, and they offer two soups daily.

Our go-tos at The Carving Board:

  1. Half a chicken salad sandwich on lightly toasted sourdough bread with lettuce and tomato and a cup of tomato basil soup (when available).
  2. Three salad plate (includes your choice of three different salads and a bistro roll). Our favorite salads are cucumber, red skin potato, and spicy sesame noodles.
  3. A pastrami or turkey sandwich on lightly toasted rye bread with melted Swiss cheese, cole slaw, and Russian dressing.

Simply Southern Cuisine

Head to Simply Southern Cuisine in Clemmons, NC, and pick up precooked frozen entrees. Set your oven to 350 and wait an hour or two for a delicious southern-style meal at home. Simply Southern Cuisine offers three serving sizes: single, small (serves 2-3), and large (serves 4-6). These items are in stock and available for purchase online. You also can pick up hot orders, which you must order at least two hours before picking up and two hours before closing.

Our go-tos at Simply Souther Cuisine:

  1. Chicken pot pie
  2. Pineapple casserole
  3. Sirloin roast and gravy
  4. Mashed potatoes
  5. Cherry yum yum
  6. Anything really

Mama Zoe Michael’s

Mama Zoe Michale’s is a Winston-Salem restaurant serving southern homestyle meals from the family ownership’s collection of favorite food recipes. Mama Zoe’s has an online menu, including daily specials, for pickup.

Our go-tos at Mama Zoe Michael’s:

  1. Baked spaghetti with mozzarella cheese
  2. Chicken pot pie with roasted chicken, peas, carrots, and potatoes folded into a creamy sauce topped with a flaky pastry. The chicken pie is enormous, so order banana pudding dessert as one of your two sides. The Greek-style green beans are an excellent second side
  3. Chicken and waffles with corn pudding

Hi, it’s Jeff Valentino. In 2019 my 2 sons and I packed up and moved to Winston Salem from the suburbs of Chicago. We didn’t know one person here. I wished there was a resource for people like me who are considering a similar move, so I decided to make one!
