FALL in love with these Winston-Salem family-friendly festivities! Autumn in Winston-Salem is colorful and most people’s favorite time of year. It’s a beautiful time to explore the history of West End, shop one-of-a-kind handcrafted works at the annual Piedmont Craftsmen’s Fair, and take the kids to one of the local farms to explore a corn maze. Jones Strawberry Farm & Corn Maze
The five-acre corn maze will open on September 16, 2023. Jones Strawberry Farm has a corn maze that is the perfect fall activity for a family with younger and older kids. The challenging maze is estimated to take 30 to 45 minutes, so it’s great for all ages. If you go at dusk, you’ll need a flashlight for entry. Check out this year’s design on our Maze Design page. The farm has had toddler hay mazes, tractor hayrides, and photo opportunities in years past.
Jack Fest is on October 21st, 2023, where they’ll be carving 200 jack-o-lanterns to light simultaneously in the dark! Carve a pumpkin and join the lighting!
Kersey Valley Spookywoods
Kersey Valley Spookywoods has been a tradition since 1985 and is one of the area’s well-known haunted attractions. This year, the event includes:
- Midway of spooky characters.
- Adult Beverages featuring four flavors of Poison Green Apple, Scream Sickle, Watermelon Margarita, and the Signature Bubbling Endora’s Brew.
- Concessions.
- Club Spooky with a live DJ waiting area, setting the mood for a heart-pounding adventure.
- 50,000 square foot walkthrough Spookywoods maze that will test your courage and navigation skills.
- A cornfield laser maze, where you must navigate through the darkness, avoiding the piercing beams and escaping the unknown.
- A dark ride tram that will take you on a bone-chilling journey through the shadows.
- A haunted trail filled with iconic horror themes, where the spirits of your worst nightmares come to life.
Alpha & Omega
Alpha & Omega is a tourist attraction and an annual tradition for many families in the Piedmont Triad. The fall corn maze event is known for being organized, well spread out, and faith-based. The 2023 Alpha & Omega Corn Maze Season starts September 9. General Admission includes a five-acre corn maze, hay ride, fire pits, farmer football, Pipe World, barnyard baseball & softball, duck races, tire & sand play area, milk cow contest, giant bounce pillows, tug-a-war, pig races, corn hole, steer racing, corncob express, hay bale pyramid, large corn box, ring hole game, photo opportunities, Toddler Town, sensory music walls, and horseshoes. If your little ones are animal lovers, you can purchase animal feed for $0.50 or a $5 pony ride. Older kids can pay extra to blast a pumpkin, throw axes, and shoot paintballs.
Carolina Classic Fair
The Carolina Classic Fair, the former Dixie Classic Fair, is a 10-day event held at the start of the fall season in Winston-Salem. There are activities for families and kids of all ages, including carnival rides, a petting zoo, games with prizes, live entertainment, fried food, and artistry booths.
West Endings Tours by Carolina History & Haunts
Tours operate all year, but it’s best to experience this activity during the spooky season. Stroll through Winston-Salem’s Historic West End District and learn about the area’s spookier past. Guided by candlelight, you’ll walk the old Victorian streets listening to haunted tales for 90 minutes. Customers of all ages are welcome, but please be advised that some of the stories may contain adult content, and late-night tours best suit adults.
Piedmont Craftsmen’s Fair
The Piedmont Craftsmen’s Fair is held annually in November, the weekend before Thanksgiving. The fair showcases the handwork of more than 100 fine artisans from across the US. Exhibitors include craft artists in clay, wood, glass, leather, leather, metal, photography, printmaking, and mixed media.
