If you have a hankering for breakfast food, then Breakfastime is the place to go! They have all the classics from pancakes to omelets and bacon, of course. Don’t let the name fool you though, they also have a great selection of burgers, sandwiches, and subs too.
When planning a visit here keep in mind, they are open 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. so they are not open for dinner. In addition to this location, there is a second location in Winston-Salem on Old Salisbury.
Ava’s Cupcakes
Almost directly across from Breakfastime on Hanes Mall Blvd. is the entrance to a small shopping center. Located in that center is a don’t miss destination for those with a sweet tooth. Ava’s Cupcakes features some unique cupcake flavors, such as banana guava, and staple flavors, such as chocolate.
The owner, Michelle Spell, completed and won the famous Cupcake Wars show. She’s incorporated those award-winning flavors into the menu. They also have a one-of-a-kind dessert called a cakecup. They are perfect for enjoying on the go or at your family’s cookout!
Basil Leaf
This is a must visit restaurant for anyone who loves or wants to try Thai food or sushi. You can’t go wrong with their Pad Thai, whether you select chicken, shrimp, or vegetable. Owner Teera Rattana always ensures they have a wonderful selection at their sushi bar. For those 21 and older, be sure to try some of their sake.
This is one of the handful of Winston-Salem restaurants that has a patio. So, head over on a nice day to enjoy some Thai food under the Carolina sun. It’s important to note if you plan to visit Basil Leaf they are closed on Mondays and between lunch and dinner on their open days.
To Your Health Bakery
Anyone who has Celiac Disease or a gluten allergy, must visit this all gluten-free bakery! To Your Health Bakery has donuts, cakes, cookies, and many more delicious treats. Plus, they also have numerous vegan desserts. Often, they sell savory times too, such as gluten-free macaroni and cheese casserole and bread. They constantly post special and daily menu items on their social media.
The owner, Anna Simenides, was selected to compete in Hallmark Channel’s Christmas Cookie Mash-up in 2019. While she didn’t win the show, she did advance to the second round.
Mario’s Pizza
Owned by local brothers, Mario and Vinny Alessio, who were born and raised in Brooklyn, Mario’s Pizza has all the Italian classics. Of course, they are known for their authentic NY-style pizza. But they also have scrumptious subs, calzones, pasta, and more. They even offer alternative crusts, like their gluten-free or cauliflower crusts.
Parents will love tall their kid’s meals are $5 and under. In addition to this location on Hanes Mall Blvd., they also have two other Winston-Salem locations on Cloverdale Ave. and Stratford Rd.
