Are you looking for ways to connect with nature? Or maybe you want to focus on getting fit by walking more. Regardless of your reason, visiting one of the many parks in Winston-Salem is always a great idea. Luckily, Winston-Salem has numerous parks to choose from. So, if you are having trouble picking one to visit, then below are five that provide a bit of everything you might be looking for in a park. Each has its own unique offerings and perks.
The Quarry at Grant Park & Reynolds Park
These are two separate parks, but they are on the same road and within minutes, so they make for a great combination for a full morning or afternoon of fun.
The Quarry offers some of the best views in the city, you can see the downtown skyline and beyond. Right now, there are only trails, a public restroom, and open spaces, but the city is currently working on adding picnic shelters and a playground.
Reynolds Park has a little bit of everything on the recreational front. There is a playground, splash pad, pool, tennis courts, golf course, recreation center, and picnic shelters. The splash pad and playground are right beside each other, which makes for easy back and forth fun for little ones
Little Creek Park
Nestled in a neighborhood off Jonestown Rd., Little Creek Park might seem small but it’s often a favorite among locals for its many amenities. There is a large walking trail loop around the entire park. Plus, the Little Creek Greenway is a paved walking trail beside the recreation center that leads to the Shoppes at Little Creek in one direction and a field in the other direction. Among the trails there are plenty of open spaces that are perfect for a picnic.
At the park, there is a splash pad, playground, basketball court, baseball diamond, soccer field, tennis court, picnic shelter, and grill. This is a great place to throw a family reunion, birthday party, or fun gathering. Just remember you must book the shelter and pay a fee in order to reserve any picnic shelter at all Winston-Salem parks.
Miller Park
If you are looking for tranquility and shaded walking trails, Miller Park is the place to go. Even though it is minutes away from busy Stratford Rd., once you hit the trails it provides plenty of peace and quiet. The creek and bridges provide fun views while walking and great photo opportunity spots.
The park also has two playgrounds, tennis courts, baseball diamond, multiple picnic shelters with grills, horseshoe pit, bocce courts, and a recreation center. Parents will love that one of the playgrounds is fenced in, which makes it easy to let kids run free and enjoy the space!
Bethabara Park
History meets fun at Bethabara Park. There is so much to learn and see here. Be sure to check out all the historic buildings and the Moravian settlement remains. If you go when the visitor center is open, they always have a wealth of information, and you can also schedule free tours of the park.
In addition to the Moravian settlement and buildings, you can also walk through the many trails and check out the wetlands. The park also hosts tons of fun and free events, such as the Highland Games and Apple Fest.
Now, get out there to one or all these parks and get active!
